DIN 128 A split curved spring lock washers is a helical-shaped split ring that has also been twisted.  When fastened, the two sharp ends exert a spring force on the fastener to create increased friction and resistance to motion.

Split curved spring lock washers is a left hand helix and allow the nut to be tightened in a right hand direction only. When compressed by tightening the nut, the washer bites into the substrate and exerts a spring force between the bolt and the substrate creating frictional resistance to rotation.
