CSN 22150 Dowel Pins – Metric Cylinder Parallel Pins & Solid Pins – stainless steel pins
CSN 22150 Dowel Pins, are solid cylindrical pins precision manufactured to a Tolerance Class of m6, which is oversized, and h8, undersized. The tolerance range is referred to as the “limit deviations” and “tolerance zone” and varies by pin diameter. For example, an M8 m6 pin has a tolerance of +0.006 to +0.015 mm but an M8 h8 pin diameter is 0 to -0.022 mm.
These parallel pins, devoid of a head, are radiused or chamfered at both ends. Press into press-fit holes and avoid impact force (striking the pins can cause them to splinter). They are used as guide and wrist pins, plug gauges, valve plungers, shafts and are well suited to align parts.
Steel round pins are unhardened and plain finish, rendering them susceptible to rust. Pin length does not include the radiused or chamfered ends, which can add 0.3 to 8.0 mm to the length depending on the dowel pin’s diameter.
What are Dowel Pins?
Dowel pins are industrial fasteners that are used to join two or more items together. They are short, cylindrical rods made of various materials including metal and plastic. Dowel pins can be tapered, slotted, grooved, or otherwise altered to change its mechanical properties. They are commonly available in imperial or metric units.
What are Dowel Pins used for?
There are many types of pins used as fasteners. At its simplest, a dowel pin is just a solid cylinder of material, which is inserted through a hole.
When a dowel pin is inserted through concentric holes in two or more components, it locates and holds them together. A slight interference or transitional fit is typically used, which compresses the pin and generates significant friction to hold the pin securely in the holes.
Steel dowel pins are often used in precision engineering applications for accurate location and alignment. These dowels have chamfers at each end to enable insertion and to guide alignment. This type of dowel is also available in other metals and engineering grade polymers.

Requirements & Considerations for Dowel Pins
When choosing dowel pins for a project, these are the most important things to consider.
1.) Diameter
The diameter is going to be how thick around the dowel pin is. The diameter will have to match the holes drilled in both sides of the two pieces that are being joined.
2.) Material
Most commonly, you will find dowel pins available in carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, aluminum and plastic.
3.) Length
In addition to the diameter, you will need to know the length of your dowel pin as well. The dowel pin should fit evenly into both pieces that you are trying to join. When the dowel is evenly distributed, it will do a better job of holding.
4.) Hardness
For a steel dowel pin, you may notice that the Rockwell Hardness Scale is mentioned. This is a way to determine the relative strength of the metal in the dowel. If you think you will need a solid dowel pin, then make sure you choose a harder Rockwell measurement.
